The Borough of Fort Lee, with a local population of approximately 38,000, is highly traveled by thousands of commuters, many using multiple transportation modes daily. The George Washington Bridge crosses the Hudson River between Fort Lee, NJ and Upper Manhattan in New York City.

“This is an example of capitalizing on new technology that will best serve our residents, businesses, and assist the general public” said Mayor, Mark Sokolich.

“On behalf of the Parking Authority Commissioners and its Administration, we are very excited to begin the use of License Plate Recognition in Fort Lee. Before considering this new technology, we contacted other operators utilizing LPR, and each stated the significant efficiencies and all were very pleased,” said Gloria Gallo, Parking Administrator for the Fort Lee Parking Authority. “We believe both our commuter population and residential parkers will enjoy the added convenience of being able to register vehicles online and eliminate the hassle of printing or buying a physical permit from the parking office.”

Gallo added, “The MobileNOW! system will be incorporated into the residential program in the near future to help us maintain quality of life for our residents making enforcement much more efficient by recognizing those vehicles unauthorized to be on our local streets.”

“We applaud Fort Lee, NJ, known as the gateway into New York City, in their decision to dramatically improve customer service through electronic permits. We are confident that parkers will enjoy purchasing and renewing permits online or through the fast and secure MobileNOW! app,” said John Oglesby, President of MobileNOW!.

Currently, commuters park in Fort Lee’s nearby lots and on-street parking. Construction for a new garage will commence in mid to late 2015.
