Street Sweeping Enforcement

FLPA vehicleThe Parking Authority issues summonses for street cleaning throughout the year. It is the motorist's responsiblity to take note of the sweeper signs posted on either side of their streets. Our Parking Enforcement Officers will always be directly in front of the sweeper or no less than half a block ahead. Signs are posted for 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Although the street cleaner usually arrives earlier than 12:00 noon, it would be wise not to return until after 12:00 noon to that posted sweeper day. Please mark you calendars accordingly. It is important that our streets be cleaned and, in order to do this, your vehicle must be moved. Sweeper summons penalites are $34.00. If you are not sure which day your block gets swept, please feel free to contact the Parking Authority at your earliest convenience.  Please notify the Parking Authority if you notice any faded or missing signs.

During the winter months, the sweeper may go out if there is a warm day or stretch of warm days where the weather allows for the sweeper to operate.  It is recommended that anytime after October 1st and before March 1st you contact the Parking Authority if you plan on parking on your designated sweeper side of the street on any given day that the weather appears to be nice enough for the sweeper to operate to find out if the sweeper will be going out.  Anytime after March 1st it is recommended you follow the sweeper signs as stated.

Metered Parking

parking metersThe Parking Authority is responsible for the purchase, maintenance, and collection of all parking meters in Fort Lee in its municipal lots, business lots, and streets.

Parking meters are used solely to assure there will be a smooth flow of traffic and the movement of vehicles from parking spaces so merchants can operate their businesses and provide spaces for shoppers. All Fort Lee parking meters in Zone A are operated at $1.00 per hour. All other meters (Zone B) are $0.25 per 1/2 hour. Please see Zone Map below.

If you park at a meter and it doesn't accept a coin or jams up, you should record the meter's number, move to another meter, and as soon as possible advise the Parking Authority of the problem. The problem will be investigated and your coin will be refunded accordingly. However, if your car remains parked at the broken meter, you are likely to be given a summons. If in the event you receive a summons because of a broken meter, please notify the Parking Authority at your earliest convenience and request a meter check; pertinent information will be taken, the meter will be investigated, and the results of the meter check will be sent via mail. The Parking Authority does not allow "meter feeding": in other words, you cannot park at a meter for longer than the time zone allows, even if you continue to place money in the meter throughout the day.

The Borough's parking lots are enforced 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Most of our lots are operated by "pay by space" machines. Please read all instructions carefully before entering money. Our machines accept coins, bills, and credit cards. Some machines in our Guntzer Ave lot accept coin and credit card only.  Credit cards have a minimum $1.50 use. Credit card use requires you to use the increment buttons located on the machine. Please use these buttons carefully to add and deduct time, you can look at the screen to see how much time you  have accumulated. If you experience any problems using this machine, there is a phone number listed to call our office during regular working hours; after hours, please leave a message and someone will return your call on the next business day.

For your convenience, the Parking Authority offers monthly permits to be used in any of our parking lots throughout Fort Lee, Bridge Plaza South between Lemoine Avenue, Hudson Terrace, and Fletcher Ave. Monthly permits are not valid on any other street in town. About the Fort Lee Parking Authority

exterior of Fort Lee Parking AuthorityThe Fort Lee Parking Authority is a statutory parking agency, established in 1954 by the Fort Lee Mayor and Council under N.J.S. 40:11A. The Borough then had a population of approximately 16,000, as compared to the present population estimated at 38,000. The Parking Authority started with five Commissioners.

Today, the Parking Authority is involved not only in parking, but over the years at the request of Borough Councils also agreed to provide bus transportation to seniors; non-emergency medical transportation; a main street shuttle for everyone, and a ferry shuttle service; developing and operating a Residential Parking Program; and administering the Borough Street Sweeping Program. Further, it established small off-street parking lots, handicap parking spaces, and is an integral part of the Borough's Emergency Management Team. All of its services are provided to benefit Fort Lee's residents and businesses.
